Response to case study scenario 1
As an engineer I can’t ignore this problem. Even my supervisor asked me to ignore this problem; I have some responsibility to explain my views. For that I have to clarify whether my thoughts are correct or not. To clarify that I need to discuss with one of my team member and get his/her idea.It’ll be more strong enough to forward my argument to the supervisor.
A great product should be depending on three main factors. First one is providing a great experience to the customer. The second one is creating a personal meaning and the third one is exceed the expectation. Each of these are intangible. As a company, we need exceed these factors to achieve good target. This kind of problem can be happened, but in this case our delivery has been forwarded to the client. So my responsibility is to resist this kind of faults that will not going to happen in future. Because I am not just a employee, I am a engineer, need to think like MBA and act as a engineer.
I have few more options to do;
• Recall delivery again.
• Review the test report before delivery has been forwarded. If there is problem, fix with out ignore.
• Announced to the client (who received the delivery), check the pen drive before selling to the customer.
If I ignore the problem, Legal action can be taken by the customer and financial consequences caused by the problem. Customer has right to take the legal action of law if they found the problem.
From 200 pen drives, failure 3 pen drives are nothing, but as a company to set our goal on beyond customer’s expectation we first need to have a good understanding of what those expectations are. Think one of our valuable customer buys our one of failure pen drive, what happens s/he needs to change the pen drive from the dealer. It breaks the customer and the dealer expectations about the brand not for the device. And also if one customer found about the problem then the company has to spend money for legal act, when s/he go for a justice that the company has to pay out for justification.
Recall the delivery and review the test report are not possible in this situation. So I convince my supervisor to make a notice to the client regarding this problem and ask them to test those devices before selling.
