Response to case study scenario 1

ISSUE AT HAND

This scenario is a very general problem that every USB manufacturing company faces. Yes being a junior engineer in the safety and testing group I have to follow the rules and regulations of the manager, but my duty lies with the company and NOT with the manager. As I have already spoken to the manager about the 1.5% failure rate, due to power consumption issues which may turn to fire hazard, of the last batch of USB devices which have already been delivered to an important client over the weekend. As the client is important there is potential for faulty USB devices to raise legal, financial and ethical issues which are listed as under:

A. Legal Issues:
1. Lawsuit by the consumer
2. Lawsuit by the client
B. Financial Issues:
1. Settlement money to the consumer
2. Settlement money to the client
3. Lawyer fees
4. Probable bankruptcy
C. Ethical Issues:
1. Probable loss of trust in the company
2. Probable loss of brand name
3. Probable extinction of usage of the USB device

Personal Experience:
I have to put in my personal experience about the usage of USB drives as I have already experienced the blow out of one of the USB drives approximately two years back and it destroyed my motherboard and the memory(RAM) which is a costly loss. But it is completely in the hands of the management to put a stop before the devices hit the market.
Professional Experience:
This mistake can ruin the present day company and will make the company to close down. This will make me unemployed. So I will not let the manager's decision lose my job. I will get in touch with the superiors and by my debate can change their decision and stop the company from being closed.
