Case study answer 2

Missing a test during step 6 will put back the completion date of this project as step 6 falls into the critical path, this could incur both immediate short term financial costs and also hit the future finances as the reputation of Intel can be tarnished for releasing components after the specified date.

The critical path includes steps, 1,2,4,6,7,8 and 9. This could prove to be very difficult to maintain as it realize heavily on everything going to plan, including resources and materials being available as soon as required.

To make the best out of the situation (missing tests in step 6) the complete stage will need to be restarted from the beginning of step 6. The reasoning for completely redoing step 6 is that the results obtained from the missing test could affect the validness of the remaining test results. Depending on the day in which the error was found, there may not be an issue of time as all subsequent steps have a relatively healthy slack tolerance.

After the project has been completed, as the supervising engineer responsible for task 6, I would initiate an investigation into the reasons for a test being missed and put in place sufficient measures to prevent this situation arising again.
