The Technology Context – B101
HONDA HYBRID CAR
The Hybrid technology is design to reducing emissions and increasing fuel efficiency. Honda Invent first Hybrid car on 2003 and its call first generation model, And later 2006 its upgrade hybrid second generation car. Hybrid technology is highly flexible and it has potential to accept alternative fuels such as diesel, biofuel or hydrogen fuel cell. Honda Civic Hybrid vehicle combines a fuels powered engine with an electric motor to provide increased gas mileage and help lower emissions. Its have used Integrated Motor Assist technology and engine use 1.3 liters VTEC( Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) for primary power, then electric motor power provides added power.
The hybrid car engine works same as your car but when you accelerating or stop the engine use power from tow sources one from gasoline another from battery. Its start up and acceleration the gasoline engine operates in low speed value timing mode with electric Integrated Motor Assist. So during low speed cruising the engine valves close and the car runs on eclectic motor alone. During gentle acceleration and high speed cruising the gasoline engine operating in low speed valve timing mode powers the car. During hard acceleration the gasoline valve timing mode with motor assist. During deceleration, like downhill a hill with foot of the accelerator, the gasoline engine valves are closed and the electric motor becomes a regenerator, recovering the maximum amount of energy and storing it in the battery. And this is the most idle stop feature automatically shuts off the Hybrid’s gasoline engine when you stop , so you save gas and help keep the air cleaner, engine will start automatically as soon as you brake pedal is released.
All cars on the road today contribute to climate change because there engines burn fuel and therefore produce carbon dioxide every time we drive. Yet you can easily reduce these emissions and save money too.
This figure shows average 36 % CO2 emissions of Civic Hybrid car when the car run on gasoline but when the car run by electric motor its does not emission CO2. It will effect when the car start up.
I believe Hybrid technology can help reduce CO2 on earth which is environmental big issue to the government. Government was counting on a cut in transport emissions to meet its domestic target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions to 20% bellow 1990 levels by 2010. And also the motor industry agreed a voluntary target that all new cars sold in EU member states should emit on average no more that 140 grammes of carbon dioxide per kilometre by end of this year. But if we look figures for the UK show that in 2004 new cars emitted an average of 171.4g CO2/km an improvement was only 0.4 per cent on 2004 and nowhere near the improvement needed to meet its target.
Transport is responsible for about a quarter of UK emissions of carbon dioxide, the vast majority of this coming form road transport. Emissions from road transport are increasing because rising traffic levels are elimination the small gains being made in fuel efficiency. The current Government forecasts that transport emissions will continue to rise in coming years, and will account for a growing percentage of total UK emissions. This rise in transport emissions is one of the main reasons why the Government is not on course to meet its domestic target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions to “20% bellow 1990- levels by 2010. However progress to date has been very slow. Emissions have fallen by 23.6 gCO2/km between 1997 and 2004.

Financially hybrid car can also save fuel cost where Civic Hybrid car run 45 mile per gallon. And average same category car only run 22.8 mile per gallon. So you can save at least £1200 per year according to Honda research. And also some country like U.S you can also get tax return.
One of the most important human impacts on our environment is the relatively rapid increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide caused by our profligate use of fossil fuels for energy particularly North America and Europe and also it’s growing in third world countries. The rise in Carbon dioxide is more rapid than at any time in the past on geologic time scales. If we look past the amount of CO2 has been increasing dramatically over the last several decades all over the world. If it keeps increasing at this rate, the CO2 concentration in 2100 will have more than doubled form its current level according the scientists. Its mean average temperature of earth will go up 3-6 degrees Celsius. The cause of this we have to face more and more digester on earth. In UK 25% of CO2 come from road transport. Indication of Hybrids car sales between 1990 and 2007 we can see its rapidly increasing. And if it’s go like that way all over the world I believe we could successful to reducing CO2.

I do believe hybrid technologies can save our environment by reducing CO2. And its also be more effective if all of our vehicles use same technologies. And if we get more support for renewable alternatives to conventional petrol and diesel, grown from crops such as oil seed rape and sugar beet.
