The Technology Context – B101
The HondaJet
Welcome to Honda
Honda’s appeal to the environment and reducing global effects of current generation automobiles has shone through its decades manufacturing, dealing them with honourable awards in engineering. There aim of constant improvement on all of their fields of work from F1 Racing, Motorcycles to their current aim of producing low-cost Honda-Hybrids.
The area where my focus will remain and base this report on is the Honda HA-420 HondaJet, the following reports and presentations will produce key information on it’s occurring fundamental issues, progress and subsequent improvement to the environment. The HondaJet is just one of the many revolutionary programs in technology, that the multinational company Honda have in development and in current production.
The HondaJet
In development since early 1997, the HondaJet is set to become one of technologies most appealing and industrial successes for the aircraft industry.
The design uses an innovative over the wing-designed engine, previously only seen on a Fokker VFW-614, which ended in 1981 with final disposal of aircraft in 1999, leading to Honda finalizing their design within the same year. It compiles of current lightweight composite materials throughout the body and heavily reinforced layers of aluminium material covering for the wings. The narrow front has been seen throughout all breeds of jets, however the has derived all the key features of the smaller business class jets and incorporated all this into this aircraft. Testing of the design through numerous wind tunnels through all forms of interference have resulted in outstanding success for the early prototypes and achieved all high performance goals and extended analysis feedback.
The wings key feature and design balances in such a way the speed of the aircraft is within the range of 40 percent greater than this of any existing aircraft of this build. The combination of it’s lightweight materials, engine layout combined with aerodynamics, only confirms that the aircraft has the potential and capabilities to create a new model for all future aircrafts rather than just the current field of aircraft jets.
Project
Honda’s goal for the aircraft is simple in that it’s objective is to re-create the jet, so that it reduces fuel usage, whilst travelling at the same speed and cost is reduced from existing jets. These if met would highly reduce the amount of fossil fuel damage on the environment, improve the amount of usage of daily fuels of activities and reduce cost and waste of materials for the next generations to come.
The current belief of the HondaJet is that with all the low cost materials, and lightweight design combined, the aircraft can save up to 30 percent of fuel in the same distance a current aircraft of this design can achieve. As mentioned at the 2003 testing, the sleek design in actual motion showed how the aircraft was travelling far greater distance using far less fuel in doing so making it’s environment achievement a success.
In my own view of the HondaJet it does revolutionise the way the standard jets of today will emerge in the future, however the issue of the over-winged design takes a step forward that many as myself wonder, is it truly required?
My reason of choice for this to be my field of report is because the aircraft industry has always been my most honourable achievement mankind has truly produced. The ability to fly from one location to another still amazes me and with futuristic designs being unveiled, the future looks intriguing. I with to develop this report so I can report the issues that have risen from the program, environment points that are both good and bad towards the whole global environment.
Next Stage
For the next motion of inquiry, I will focus on what factual beneficially the HondaJet 2010 program can summon to produce, through comparisons to current existing technology within the Jet Manufacturing Technology field and for other companies in similar future projects. This will be scaled down into a number of key areas regarding:
· Manufacturing with production cost
· Global environment energy saving
· Sustainable evidence of improvement
