The Technology Context – B101

The Sony Entertainment

Topic- Sony entertainment

1) Is there technology as good as they say it is?
2) What makes there technology better than anyone else’s?

Being bias is one thing, however the technology that Sony produce, are they really that good? Do they meet the customer’s needs?
Sony is a Japanese multinational conglomerate co-operation. Sony manufactures in technology such as: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony)

 Electronic
 Video
 Communications

As a current student the specific type of technology I will be writing about is the Sony MP3 player. The reason why I chose this is because me personally I use this technology and most people do as well. Looking at a particular audience for example students, almost every student has an MP3 player. But knowing that every student doesn’t use Sony, the question is Why. Why don’t they use Sony?
Possible answer occurs, answers such as Price, Student choice or even the technology itself.

Sony MP3 Player

Sony has produced a few of the best MP3 player technology around. The way an MP3 player works is that the user inserts the MP3 Player to the computer or laptop, and then is able to transfer music files, videos and images on to the device.

However recent Sony MP3 players has needed the user to install a programme known as ‘SonicStage’. Once the software has been installed then only music can be transferred. Research has shown that a lot of people have complained about this.

These are all negative comments about the Software. This is clearly a disadvantage for the company. The specific MP3 Player that requires this programme is a new type of technology that Sony has produced on the MP3 side. However Sony have realised this problem and have produced a new technology for people to buy. This shows that all technology has its disadvantages, like any other company Sony manufactures has produced a new technology which is better than the original. From anything small, to battery life or even memory. The technology always improves in a good way.

Comparing Sony MP3 players so Apple I-pod, there is hardly a difference. They both do the same job, but how does the Sony MP3 Player beat the Apple I-pod? People may buy the I-pod only because it’s fairly new, could be cheaper or just because of choice. But the question still lies;

Which one is better?

I have been around and I have asked a couple of people which one they prefer.
One person says he prefers Apple I-pod because it has more features, bigger screen and movies can be watched on the I-pod itself. However the same person said that the disadvantage about Apple I-pod is that the battery life I very weak and unlike the MP3 player, Apple I-pod has to be plugged in using a wire with a USB at the end whiles the MP3 player already has it.
Another person says that he prefers the MP3 Player because of the fact it does what he wants it to do. The fact that it is small and compact it’s easy to take around. Again the disadvantage is the fact that he finds the programme a hassle.
I came across a small conclusion when giving these short interviews, my conclusion is that as a Student looking at the financial side, students would by the cheaper one only if it meets there needs. In addition looking at both these two types of technologies, as well as students but other people would choose over favouritism. Also what I have noticed is the price range between the two technologies, before the technology is launched on to the market it is a key factor that the audience is to be targeted. If this is not met then it makes it difficult for the product to be sold. This is because once a target has been added then it allows the price range to change. This makes it easier for the company to select a price, will the audience purchase the technology? This is worked out when targeting a specific audience.
Entertainment is everywhere in an everyday life, MP3 Player is one. In this case music is what the factor is. Before the MP3 was invented, the Sony Disc-man was there and before that was the Sony Walkman. This holds a Cassette which has to record songs on to it. Similar with the Disc-man, albums can be purchased and CD’s could be made just to listen to. It has been shown that technology has grown in a massive way, from something as big to as small as an AA battery.

The Sony MP3 player can produce everything the user wants to.
1) Stores a mass amounts of songs, videos and images
2) Small and stylish Rechargeable
3) Play list can be made
4) Small and stylish
5) Different play modes
6) Easy to use

This is a short list that makes the Sony MP3 player stand out. On a personal opinion the Sony MP3 player is as good as they say it is. Using both the Apple I-pod and the Sony MP3 player, yes it is agreeable that the I-pod is a bit more easy to use only because there are more features on there however the only reason why I prefer the Sony MP3 player is only because of comfort. I am already using to using an MP3 player and using the Sony MP3 player makes it no different to any other.

By reviewing the Sony MP3 player and asking questions to other people that use both the MP3 player and the Apple I-pod, I can say that Sony technology has beaten the Apple I-pod, however we all know that technology changes, new technology is always introduced. So the question still lays, Are Sony as good as they say they are? The answer to this question is Yes. Simply because with any sort of technology that Sony make it always gets better. Who knows what’s next. Who will buy it and most importantly what errors will be involved?
